• Mineral EP released on Lightless Digital

Lightless Digital continues to put out some more Finnish d&b/jungle mastery. It’s time for Mineral to step up with his bangin’ four-tracker. “Mineral EP” consists of four tracks that will make d&b lovers dance and head-nod like there’s no tomorrow! Check out the soundclips below, and get the tunes at Juno, Digital Tunes, iTunes as well as all other good stores.

“Twisted Dream” explores the deep roots of break-oriented d&b with a proper heavy, in-your-face approach, getting all wicked with amens and apaches – Source Direct fans will go crazy for this oldschoolish tune…it’s hard to believe this one’s not from 1997!

“Mercury” is an eerie track that clearly pays homage to the Platinum-Breakz-era jungle, making you both shiver and brock out with its deadly basslines, tight drums & spooky pads. Not for the faint-hearted!

“Searching for the Daylight” represents the softer and deeper side of Mineral’s production with more subtle and melancholic melodies. This one’s a groovy stepper!

Finally, the classic Mineral track “Other Life” (released on In Da Jungle) gets the fresh revamp treatment it deserves from another talented Finnish junglehead, Trisector, who remixed the track to the proverbial next level – this is a serious dancefloor-smasher to all you neuro addicts out there.

This is a must release for all deeper dnb fans. Crank up the bass, put your dancing sneakers on and enjoy another Lightless release that won’t disappoint.

  • Free Track of The Week #19: Mauoq – Unknown Recipient

We have another great free track up, by DJ Mauoq from Rome, now based in London. Unknown Recipient is a nice atmospheric track with some techish spices innit. Check it out!

    Unknown Recipient [2011] by Mauoq

Mauoq is a dj/producer from Rome, now based in London. I had the chance to ask Mauoq about his musical backround & interests:

“I started DJing at student parties in Italy in the early ’90s and fell in love with DnB shortly after.I was exposed to music softwares in the late nineties and that slowly but steady became my obsession. I’ve played many clubs in Rome and London, but now I’m concentrating more on production. After years fiddling with various electronic music toys it’s only recently that I started feeling relatively happy about my music and my first release is coming out  end of March on Green Queen Music.

Generally speaking I would like the world to know that drum’n’bass has evolved. There’s now much more to it than just rattling drums and overloud basslines. This is what I try to do with my podcast and ultimately with my own production.

This track “Unknown Recipient” was written almost entirely two years ago and I thought that a little polish would have made it a nice listen. I think I was right. I hope you agree. Enjoy.”

I’m really digging your style Mauoq, keep it up! There’s some really cool tracks in Mauoq’s soundcloud, I’d recommend you to listen “Aerosolid”, a track that has gotten dj support from Stunna.

  • Free Track of The Week #18: J Melodic – Key Tempo

This week’s Free Track comes from the UK by an artist called J Melodic. Jay’s songs are heavily inspired by the melodic side of drum’n’bass, just like his artistname says. Grab a coffee and start listening “Key Tempo”. Njoy!

Jay’s music is influenced by many artists from the melodic side of dnb. He says, that he gets his inspirations and influences from LTJ Bukem, Lenzman, mjcole, Goldie, Fabio, Marcus Intalex, mood2swing to name but a few.

There’s a lot of variation in J Melodic’s production. I’m really digging his (WIP) We run tings, an old school track at Jay’s soundcloud. Check it out at his soundcloud.

  • Free Track of The Week #17: Resound – Northern Lights

The Free Track of The Week #17 comes from Resound, a good friend of mine who’s been around in the dnb scene for more than a decade. Check the atmospheres in the track “Northern Lights” by the one and only Resound – produced back in 2000!

Resound – Northern Lights [download mineral.fi_free017]

Resound is a musician/producer and DJ from Tampere, Finland. Many know him from his music on such record labels as Digital Soundboy, Renegade Hardware, Razor’s Edge/Metalheadz, Function and Secret Operations. He also does a lot of mixing/engineering/mastering work for others.

Resound’s style is timeless, I’d say. Just think about this track “Northern Lights”: it was done more than a decade ago and it still sounds SO fresh with the atmospheric melodies and fine unique beat variations. No wonder Resound is recognized worldwide as a producer and dj.

OUT NOW: LOXY & RESOUND – VERTIGO (EXIT RECORDS / MOSAIC LP)

One of Resound’s newer productions, “Vertigo”, done in collaboration with Loxy was released recently, and it is definitely worth checking out. Listen & buy at Juno and other good record stores. Also, hold tight for the Loxy & Resound album which is due on Exit later…

MINERAL & RESOUND IN COLLABORATION: NEW TRACK ALMOST FINISHED

We’ve also been working on a yet untitled drum’n’bass track with Resound, and the track is about to get finished.

I’m planning to record a mixtape later this week including this new track (and bunch of other new tracks!), and it’ll be available here at mineral.fi next week. This is a mix that I’ve been planning to record for a long time, so check back soon!

Puzzle alias Juho Kavasto is a very talented young musician hailing from Finland. He was featured at mineral.fi earlier with his track “Kumoi“, and now we have the luxury to enjoy and download another fine track by this promising artist. I can’t tell you how much I like the pads accompanied with the deep bass and minimalistic melodies. The feeling in “No Motion” is really atmospheric and somehow unreal – these melodies set up a really unique mood. Hope you enjoy this track as much as I do. And if you do, make sure to join Puzzle’s soundcloud & facebook, the links are below!

  • Free Track of The Week #14: Radicall – Plus

I’m very proud to present the Free Track of The Week #14 by a Polish dnb artist Radicall. The track “Plus” is a really catchy and deep track with excellent atmosphere in it. A recommended download!

    Radicall – Plus [download mineral.fi_free014]

    Radicall – Plus by radicall

Krzysztof Golinski aka Radicall is a Producer, dj and founder of Nightworks.

In love with the music since day one. His early productions were heavily inspired by jungle/jump up sound, later he induced himself to deeper and heavier timbre of drum’n’bass. In 2002 he became one of the finalists of “Made In Poland” – producers contest which revealed biggest talents of that time. It was his premiere as a producer and a dj under a nickname which he kept till now – Radicall..

In the meantime his music was still evolving – as a result of his constant search of new boundaries and ideas “Forgotten Horizon” came into being, side-project mainly focused on ambient, flowing, “between dream and reality” kind of sound. His d’n’b repertoire changed. Melodic, trancestep inspired sound was slowly replaced with deeper and heavier neurofunk and atmospheric landscape. In his solo project he focused on deeper, setting-up new boundaries in atmospheric-dnb sound, heavily inspired by neurofunk, technoid, ambient, classic electronic and ocean of other interesting music.

In his sound space there is one inherent element. It’s deep and full of warm vibrations Katee’s vocal, which perfectly highlights an emotional charge of his music. First of all, music is a matter of imagination, his tracks got very vivid character and they’re infused with very specific emotional charge. His mixes combine energy, dynamics and techstep/neurofunk severity, electrostep melodiousness with deeper breath of atmospheric mood…
